Manners are efficient.
If your message sounds like an order, it probably is.
That’s how goodwill disappears.
Same ask, different landing. One reads as pressure, one reads as respect.
Without please
“Send this now.”
With please
“Could you send this when you have a minute, please?”
👀 You were sent this because of a message you sent. One polite word would’ve changed it.
This lands the same with family, neighbours, colleagues, and strangers.
Language has shifted.
We say “could you” and “would you” a lot now.
That works. Often ambiguous.
Please is different. It’s the GOAT.
Shorter. Clearer. Human.
This isn’t about being fake nice. It’s about sounding human.
(Yes, even if it costs a token. Good habits are cheap.)
